Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, 1-3 February
9:00 - 11:30a

Bishop State Community College
Classroom: TBA

Become a communication architect in your own workplace. Every document goes through a predictable set of stages as it develops from a good idea into a great draft. Once you understand and master these stages, you'll be able to guide this process, building documents both you and your employer can take pride in. Mastering this process is one of the most sought-after skill sets desired by the market today, and once you put these skills to work, you'll see your value in your organization soar! We encourage you to bring "live" examples with you; our professional instructors are always glad to workshop real tasks from your own workplace.

The Letter of Intent and the White Paper: a Powerful Synthesis of Proposal and Summary Writing

Tuesday, 9th February
1:00 - 4:30p

Summary writing is at the heart of all writing. This is probably the most difficult part of understanding any task, and it is certainly the most challenging aspect of developing any projects. Several types of documents that can be understood as almost entirely composed of the work of summarizing -- the simplest way to categorize these documents is to call them proposals. There are many different types of documents that are best thought of as proposals (grants, letters of intent, white papers, application letters, even many workplace emails). The better you are at summarizing, the more successful your work will be. This seminar focuses on designing and building successful proposals.

Participants are asked to bring details of a proposal that they wish to pursue or that they've been assigned to complete. The more contextual information we have for your document, the better. Examples of such "contextual information" include the original RFP where relevant; demographics of the project including audience, mission statement, venue of delivery; and details of targeted employer or university/school/program.
